Part of the Alternate Routes Hip Hop Festival
This event includes two film screenings, each followed by a panel discussion. The Other Side of Hip Hop: The Sixth Element, named 2007 Best Documentary at the 2007 Big Apple Film Festival, offers a penetrating look at the life and work of noted hip-hop photographer and activist Ernie Paniccioli. Following the screening, Ernie Paniccoli will be joined by producer Dion Ashman, Kangol Kid, and Lin Que for a panel discussion. The Hip Hop Project chronicles the compelling story of Chris "Kharma Kazi" Rolle, a formerly homeless teenager who inspired a group of New York City teens to transform their stories into a powerful, collective work of art, using hip hop as a vehicle for self-development and personal discovery. Following the screening, Chris "Kharma Kazi" Rolle and Robin Kheperah Kearse will participate in a panel discussion. Tickets for this event are free and will be available on the day of the performance.
